Cate (Member Resources, LLC) Terms of Service

Welcome to Cate!

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the services provided by Cate (Member Resources, LLC) (“Cate,” “we,” “our,” or “us”). By subscribing to our services, you agree to be bound by these Terms. Please read them carefully.

SECTION I – General Provisions (aka the Fine Print)

  1. Definitions
    • Member: That’s you —the individual who subscribed to Cate. This doesn’t include your spouse or dependents, just you.
    • Service(s): All the legal goodness you get from Cate, like resources, consultations, document reviews, and more, brought to you by our trusted network of licensed attorneys.
    • Provider Law Firm: The legal pros who’ve partnered with Cate to provide you with top-notch services. These are licensed attorneys or firms contracted with Cate to help with your legal needs in your primary state of residence. Sometimes, your case might be referred to another lawyer or firm (called a “Referral Law Firm”), but for our purposes, they’re all part of the same Provider Law Firm team.
  2. Membership, Fees and Renewal TermsBy subscribing to Cate, you agree to pay the membership fee, which grants access to the services outlined in your specific plan. Fees are non-refundable unless otherwise stated. When you subscribe to Cate’s services, you’re signing up for either a 6-month term at $24.99/month or a 12-month term at $19.99/month. Each term is binding, meaning you’ll be responsible for the full duration of your chosen plan. At the end of your subscription term, it will automatically renew for the same term unless canceled before the renewal date. For example, if you’re on a 6-month plan, you’ll roll over into another 6-month cycle unless you decide to opt-out in advance.

We’ll send you a reminder before your renewal date, but it’s your responsibility to cancel if you don’t wish to continue. No early terminations or prorated refunds will be issued if you cancel mid-term.

  3. Services Provided
Members are entitled to free or discounted legal services through Cate’s network of Provider Law firms, which are listed in Part II of these Terms.
  4. Exclusions and Limitations
We’re here to help with all your personal legal stuff, but there are a few things we don’t cover. These include:

    • Anything business-related—corporate legal issues, estate taxes, and big-time litigation aren’t our jam.
    • Criminal charges? You’ll need a different kind of backup.
    • Anything that’s more business than personal—think estate taxes, corporate issues, or high-stakes litigation. Basically, if it’s not about you or your personal matters, it’s probably outside our wheelhouse.

For more details, head to Section II. And remember, your Provider Law Firm is always just a call away for tailored legal advice.

  5. Legal Consultation ProcessHow to Chat with Your Lawyer Friend? All legal consultations start with Cate’s designated Provider Law Firm. We’re growing fast, but right now, consultations are only available for matters happening in New York State. Stay tuned—more states coming soon!
  6. Cancellation and Renewal
We love having you here, but if payments go MIA or there’s misuse (hey, no fraud, please!), Cate reserves the right to hit pause or not renew your membership. If that happens, we’ll drop you a heads-up in writing.
  7. Service AvailabilityCate’s services are kind of like a box of chocolates—you get access to the good stuff, but availability depends on the legal flavors in your state. While we can’t promise a specific outcome (law is tricky like that), rest assured you’re getting advice from top-notch legal pros.
  8. Member Perks
Being a Cate member has its perks—literally. Get in on sweet third-party discounts through our Cate Member Perks program. Just keep in mind, these deals might change like New York weather (so, pretty often!).
  9. Changes to Terms
We may tweak these Terms from time to time. When we do, we’ll make sure you’re in the loop—either by email or on our website. You’ll be the first to know!
  10. Dispute Resolution
Got an issue? We’ve got your back, but disputes about our service will be settled through binding arbitration. By the way, signing up means you’re waving bye-bye to class actions or group lawsuits against Cate.
  11. Severability
If any part of these Terms doesn’t stick (legally speaking), no worries! The rest of the Terms are still good to go and will keep rolling.
  12. Cate’s Legal Plans aren’t insurance or some complicated indemnification scheme. We’re not an insurance company, and we can’t guarantee you’ll have a lawyer in every situation. What we can promise is access to top-notch legal advice through our Plan Attorneys—sometimes for free, other times at a nice discount. Cate won’t be reimbursing or covering attorney fees either. Instead, we’re here to connect you with legal pros when you need them most, without the insurance red tape.

As a Cate Plan Member, you’re responsible for any costs that pop up while using your Legal Plan. Think legal filing fees, postage, or other charges related to your case with a Provider Law Firm. We’ve got your back with access to legal support, but those extra costs? They’re on you!

SECTION II – Services and Exclusions

These Services are provided by the Provider Law Firm.

General Legal Services

  1. Phone Consultations
As a Cate member, you can call your Provider Law Firm for as many consultations as you need on different personal legal matters—seriously, no limits! They’ll dive into the details of each situation and give you the guidance you need.

    • This could look like:
      • Breaking things down so it all makes sense.
      • Offering advice to help you handle it yourself.
      • Recommending extra legal help if needed.
If more help is suggested, you’ll get a sweet discount on their regular rates. Any additional work will be between you and the law firm, and you may need to set up a retainer agreement.
  2. Letters or Phone Calls
Sometimes, all it takes is a strong letter or a quick phone call from your lawyer friend. After chatting with you, if your Provider Law Firm thinks this will help wrap things up, they’ve got it covered. You’re entitled to one letter or phone call per separate legal issue.

Document Review Services

  1. Document Review
Got a legal document that needs a second set of eyes? As a Cate member, you can send in one personal legal document (up to 15 pages) per month for review. Just make sure you’re one of the parties on the document! Keep the original for your records, and send us a copy. Your Provider Law Firm will review it, flag any concerns, and check for compliance with state and federal laws.

    • What We Don’t Review:
      • Anything meant for submission to government agencies—think tax appeals, Social Security applications, or unemployment claims.
      • Edits, revisions, or negotiations on reviewed documents.
      • Legal matters already covered elsewhere in your membership.

Send it our way, and we’ll help you spot any red flags!

Estate Planning Services

  1. Last Will & Testament
Need a Will? We’ve got you covered. Start with a phone chat with your Provider Law Firm to go over your wishes (including options for a children’s trust, if needed). Afterward, they’ll send you a questionnaire to gather all the details. From there, they’ll draft your Will, and with your Cate membership, you can get it notarized for free. Future updates or additional Wills? Those come with a 15% discount.
  2. Durable Power of Attorney
Want a Durable Power of Attorney? No problem. You’ll also get a 15% discount on any future updates or additional documents.
  3. Physician’s Directive/Living Will
Your Provider Law Firm can also draft a Physician’s Directive/Living Will. As with your Will and Power of Attorney, future updates are 15% off.
Note: You’re responsible for signing and storing all these documents.

    • What’s Not Covered:
      • Estate tax planning, distributing assets outside the U.S., and trusts (except for testamentary children’s trusts).
      • Uncontested Name Changes.
      • Now you can plan for the future with peace of mind!

When life throws a financial curveball, we’re here to help you sort it out. They’ll handle the paperwork, represent you in court, and negotiate with creditors to protect your interests. It’s all about giving you a fresh financial start. Cost: $1,500 (including court fees) in NYC and Nassau/Suffolk counties.
  2. Real Estate Closing

Cost: 25-50% Reduction in Legal Fees charged by the Firm.
  3. Uncontested Divorce
When parting ways is the next step, your Provider Law Firm will handle the process smoothly. They’ll prepare and file the necessary documents, including the divorce petition and settlement agreement. With ongoing legal support, they’ll help make sure everything’s legal, fair, and as stress-free as possible. Cost: $500.

Legal help you can count on—at prices that won’t break the bank.

Accident & Personal Injury

  1. Accident and Personal Injury Cases
Had a rough day due to an accident? Whether it’s a car accident, a slip and fall, or a work injury caused by someone else’s negligence, your Provider Law Firm is here to help. As a Cate member, you can get a free consultation to discuss your case. They’ll assist with filing third-party claims for extra expenses and handle negotiations with the insurance companies. Most of the time, these cases are handled on a contingency basis, which will be worked out in a separate agreement between you and the law firm.

    • What’s Not Covered:
      • Damage to your car.

Motor Vehicle-Related Services

  1. Traffic Assistance
Got a speeding ticket? If you get a moving violation while driving a Licensed Motor Vehicle with permission from the owner, your Provider Law Firm will step in to help. For just $100 per defense, you can get legal representation for one (1) moving violation in your state of residence each Membership Year. For additional violations, a $150 fee applies. Just make sure to submit the ticket at least five (5) days before your court date, and be ready to attend the hearing if the law firm asks. Need more help? Further services are available at a 15% discount.

    • What’s Not Covered:
      1. Violations involving driving under the influence (alcohol, drugs, etc.).
      2. Cases the law firm deems unreasonable to defend (like frivolous claims).
      3. Incidents with Commercial Vehicles.
      4. Charges for hit-and-runs or leaving the scene.
      5. Misdemeanor or felony charges.
      6. Tickets that don’t affect your driving or motor vehicle record.
      7. Driving without a valid license, insurance, registration, or proper equipment.
      8. Administrative actions affecting driving privileges, even from a covered violation.
      9. Appeals or post-judgment actions in different courts.

Drive with a little more peace of mind, knowing we’ve got your back on the road!

Online Notarization

Here’s how it works:

  • Access the service through our provided platform.
  • Verify your identity with a government-issued ID.
  • Meet with a notary to sign your documents virtually.

In just a few minutes, you’ll have your notarization done and dusted, with documents sent electronically and securely using multifactor authentication. Plus, each session is recorded for added peace of mind.
